(WIAT) — On Friday, President Obama will sign legislation honoring the victims of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell will be at the White House for the historic event.

“It is a great honor for those young ladies, and it goes a long way to recognizing the tragedy and its impact on the Civil Rights movement,” Mayor Bell said.

Surviving relatives of the girls, as well as members of Alabama’s congressional delegation, will also attend the ceremony.
