(WIAT) – This weekend is first big kick off of the boating season.
The Alabama Marine Police says, it ranks up there with the fourth of July as far as the number of people who will populate Smith Lake at one time.
with every new boating season comes a lesson in etiquette …
Plowing through the water can leave a wake two feet high. Although it’s fun for you, it is also inconsiderate to other boaters.
Officer John Williams says the goal behind “Watch your Wake Share the Lake” campaign is to get people to drive in the middle of the lake and stay away from the shoreline.
Hazardous wakes are a misdemeanor and can cost you up to five hundred dollars.
Alcohol is against the law on Smith Lake since it is located in three dry counties … Walker, Cullman and Winston.
