(WIAT) — A total of $1,421 of counterfeit money was collected from Gadsden businesses on Thursday.
The Gadsden Police Department conducted a sweep of local business due to the recent high volume of counterfeit money passed within the city.
“The reason for this sweep served two purposes. 1. To keep counterfeit money from being re-circulated back to the public, and 2. To educate store personnel of how important turning in counterfeit money is to an ongoing investigation,” Gadsden Police Department Sgt. Patrick Chumley said in a statement released on Friday.
