BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Physical education classes are typically electives that students may only get once a week.
However, a study from the Institute of Medicine says that is not nearly enough.
It recommends children get at least one hour of physical activity every day.
The physicians group believes the Education Department should consider PE a core class like reading and math.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says only about 30 percent of students nationwide have PE five days a week.
