GAINESVILLE, FL (WIAT) – The UAB softball team was defeated by No.2 seed Florida, 1-0, on Sunday in game two of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional. The loss ends the Blazers (40-19) season, whil Florida (57-7) will move on to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
The Gators scored their only run of the game in the top of the 4th inning, on an RBI double by Taylor Schwarz. UAB’s Lauren Webster took the loss in the circle. She struck out four on the day. Lannah Campbell replaced her for the final three innings.
UAB’s Anna Kimbrell doubled off the wall in the bottom of the 7th inning, with one out. Lauren Webster hit a single, but pinch runner Hailey Glynn was thrown out at home to end the game.
UAB won their first regular-season C-USA softball title with a record of 19-4, won their first NCAA Regional title and appeared in the program’s first NCAA Super Regional. The Blazers senior class finished with 153 wins, four regional appearances and one Super Regional appearance.
