CHELSEA, Ala. (WIAT) — As the flames begin to rise, the call comes in and firefighters prepare to make their way to the scene.

“There’s something inside you, you’re born with it” – Jason Hoosier, Chelsea Fire Dept. Explorer

But this isn’t a regular fire. This is a training exercise put on by the Chelsea Fire Department.

It’s a part of their Explorer Post Program.

“The Explorer Post Program is specifically designed for individuals who are thinking about the fire services as a career.” - Lt. Don Williamson, Chelsea Fire Dept.

It’s a program that helps people get a taste of what is to come. And helps them learn some of the basics.

It’s also a way to give explorers, like Jason Hoosier, a truly hands-on experience.

“It’s an adrenaline rush, I love it, I can’t get enough of it. It’s kind of like a bug that bites you. Once you get bit, you can’t get rid of it.” - Jason Hoosier, Chelsea Fire Dept. Explorer
