BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — In West Alabama, the Memorial Day celebration began early at Veterans Memorial Park in Tuscaloosa.
The annual program has run for over a decade, and Monday’s event produced a large turnout.
Retired Air Force Col. Duane Lamb was the speaker at the event.
Veterans Memorial Park was built as a tribute to Northington General Army Hospital, which was once located in Tuscaloosa and was first dedicated in 1978.
The hospital was one of the largest military hospitals in the world after World War II.
