(WIAT)– Alabama is currently ranked sixth in the country for the number of vehicle train collisions, and that’s something state leaders want to change. According to the latest numbers published by Operation Lifesaver, 43 vehicles collided with trains in 2011, and with June designated as Rail Safety Awareness Month, the organization is criss crossing the state to spread awareness.

Thursday, June 6th  they will set up shop at the Alabama Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. You’re invited to stop by to learn more about how you can help prevent collisions involving trains.
