JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT)- Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday morning around 1 a.m.
Responders from the Birmingham Fire Department and Cahaba Valley Fire Department also worked the scene and was given information that there were three fatalities.
Witnesses say they saw a black GMC Sonoma traveling at high speeds going west on Alabama 119. The truck was reported to have been swerving when the driver lost control, sliding into a motorcycle that was travelling east. The truck and motorcycle went over a guard rail where the truck came to rest against an embankment.
The driver and passenger of the motorcycle and the driver of the truck were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
A second motorcycle that was travelling east was able to swerve out of the way of the truck. The driver and passenger were transported to UAB with injuries that were non life-threatening after they hit their heads on the pavement.
The identity of the three deceased victims have not been released pending family notification.
