Area schools recognized by White House, U.S. Dept. of Education

(WIAT) – Some major Washington D.C. organizations, including the White House and the U.S. Department of Education, are recognizing several schools and an entire district in the Birmingham area on Monday evening.

The entire Talladega School System, along with Gwin Elementary School in Hoover, Munford Middle School and High School and Fayetteville High School in Sylacauga are all now considered Green Ribbon Schools and District Sustainability award honorees.

The recognition is given to schools for exemplary efforts to reduce environment impact and costs, promote better health and ensure effective environmental education.
