BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A Birmingham park will likely be a hot spot for hoops this summer, thanks to a renovation of the basketball court.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell attempted to make the first shot on one of the new goals at Claude Grayson Park on Monday afternoon.

After a few failed attempts, he handed the ball over to someone a little younger who got the job done.

The repaved court and new goals are thanks to the Sprite Spark Parks program. The company donated $10,000 for the upgrade.

“We’re not through with this park yet by any means. This is just the start. We’re going to make sure we clean it up, keep it clean and give young people and give young people the chance to come out an enjoy the outdoors,” Mayor Bell said.

The Sprite Spark Parks program renovated two other Birmingham parks last year.
