BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Drivers using the southbound lane of Interstate 459 Friday morning had to deal with more than just the usual rush hour traffic.
Early Friday morning an 18-wheeler struck an overhead sign causing it to fall onto the highway.
The accident occurred around mile marker 22.
Crews have been out on the scene all morning trying to remove the debris.
Drivers have been able to get through the area more as the morning progresses, and more of the lanes open up.
At one point, traffic had been backed up all the way to the Grants Mill Road exit.
