(WIAT) — Rickia Sims has been patching up her roof for the past few years, ever since a tree from her neighbor’s yard fell on top of it.
After heavy rains moved through the Birmingham area Friday afternoon, the weight of the water caused parts of her roof to collapse. The water soaked through her floors, and a mix of ceiling tiles and insulation covered her furniture.
Sims has lived in her home on Tuscaloosa Ave. S.W. for about 14 years.
Her roof has sustained major damage over the years, and she cannot afford to do more than patch it up as needed. She needs an entirely new roof.
