(WIAT) — On Friday, the Salvation Army served free donuts and coffee to area veterans.

As many as 500 folks stopped by.

Established in 1938, National Donut Day honors the women, called donut lassies, who supported our soldiers overseas.

Every year, National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday in June.
