Birmingham, AL (WIAT)-Samford junior pitcher and designated hitter C.K. Irby went to the Minnesota Twins in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Friday.
Irby is the second Samford player to be taken so far in this year’s draft with Phillip Ervin being taken in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds.
As a junior, Irby led the Bulldogs with a .383 batting average, 16 doubles and 59 RBI and ranked in the top five in the Southern Conference in batting average, hits, triples and RBI.
On the mound, Irby posted a 4.14 ERA, 90 strikeouts and a 7-6 record.
For his Samford career, Irby has a .344 batting average and has driven in 109 runs.
As a pitcher, Irby has a career record of 17-9 with a 3.29 ERA.
