JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) — Thieves are targeting donation drop boxes … leaving these charitable organizations with less to help those who need it most.
Walker County’s Missions Unlimited is fighting back.
Security cameras caught 20 people stealing from its drop box in the last month.
Charles Harper says people are selling the stolen items at scrap metal yards and holding yard sales. Missions Unlimited has installed eight security cameras in the past six weeks because thefts have continued to increase … not only here but at the Salvation Army as well.
Harper says they want people to know they’re being watched. However, it’s an uphill battle, there’s a small sign which reads “You are being recorded” … Harper says the large metal sign they had installed was stolen and sold for scrap metal.
Call Jasper police or Charles Harper at Missions Unlimited at 205-544-8784 if you have any information on thefts.
