(WIAT) –Former Birmingham police officers are set to stand trial soon on arson charges.
Jury selection began on Monday afternoon in Curtis Thornton’s trial.
Thornton is charged with setting six fires in west Birmingham and Warrior in 2012.
Prosecutors claim he’s a pyromaniac.
The judge ruled the prosecution can introduce evidence that Thornton once set fire to a convenience store counter while on duty.
He was never charged in that incident.
Additionally, Jason Arnold, another former Birmingham police officer, will stand trial beginning next week.
He is charged in connection with the arsons.
Arnold’s trial is scheduled to begin Monday, June 17.
