Weaver agrees to measure allowing Sunday alcohol sales

WEAVER, Ala. (AP) — Businesses in the eastern Alabama town of Weaver will soon be able to sell beer, wine and liquor on Sundays.

The Anniston Star reports that the Weaver City Council on Tuesday voted to join Anniston as the only two municipalities in Calhoun County to expand alcohol sales to seven days a week. Tuesday was the council’s first meeting since the Alabama Legislature passed a law allowing Weaver’s council to vote on the matter.

Right now, only the Bearcat Express, a convenience store in downtown Weaver, sells alcohol, but that will change on Aug. 1. Another bill signed into law this year will annex Smokin Joes Tobacco and Beverage Shop as well as Heroes American Bar and Grille into Weaver’s city limits in August. Both of the businesses are on Alabama 21.
