Debt collector for Mexican drug cartel admits to more than 30 murders

MOULTON, Ala. (WIAT) — A man who claims to have killed more than 30 people on behalf of the Mexican drug cartel is behind bars in Moulton, Alabama.

The admission came about during Jose Martinez’s interview with Lawrence County investigators.

DNA found a cigarette butt connecting Martinez to one of the murders that occurred in Florida in 2006.

In the interview, Martinez reportedly told police that he is a hired debt collector for the Mexican drug cartel and has been killing for debts since he was 16 years old.

While he is a reported assassin, he clarified with police that his payment comes from the debt collection and not the murders.

So far, authorities have been able to confirm at least 11 of the murders he’s admitted to committing.
