BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The plans for a new UAB student center have been approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees during its meeting on Friday.
The center will provide space for student activities, gatherings and services, which includes space for student organizations, upgraded dining facilities, a bookstore and a one-stop student service center.
“This project exemplifies UAB’s commitment to our students,” said Harlan Sands, Vice Provost for Administration and Quality Improvement
The center will replace the Hill University Center (HUC) which was the hub for student matters, like admission questions, course registration, student accounting, financial aid or student ID functions.
Preparations have already been made to move several parts of the HUC ahead of the demolition starting August 2013 and an HUC moving plan has been posted online.
The new UAB student center is expected to be completed for the Fall 2015 semester.
“Excitement for the construction of a new student center is building. What we’re going to get is going to create a much better student experience,” Carolyn Farley, Director of Academic and Student Services.
