(WIAT) – As the temperatures rise, the heat is guaranteed to put your air conditioning unit to the test.

AC repair companies in the area busy, as some customers are only feeling hot air as they crank up the AC for the first time in months.

Phil Smitherman, owner of Aux Mechanical says his company is staying busy with about 50 to 60 appointments a day.

“Days like today, it could go from 6’oclock in the morning to midnight.”

It’s a busy time for AC repair companies and a miserable time from some homeowners.

It’s the hottest day of the year and my AC is out,” said Sara Justice, one of Aux Mechanical’s many clients.

“A lot of times we find that they’ve [AC unit] haven’t had maintenance in years, four or five years, and you just find that shocking that the second largest expense on the home is neglected to that degree,” said Smitherman.

He recommends taking a lot at your unit a few times a year. Make sure there are no leaves inside or outside of the unit and when mowing the lawn, turn your mower in the opposite direction of the air conditioning unit, doing so, will keep clippings from blowing into the unit.
