(WIAT) — A Jefferson County woman is accused of helping her son cover up her nephew’s murder.

48-year-old Elizabeth Boyd is charged with hindering prosecution. She was booked and then released after posting bond, which was set at $15,000.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says she withheld information from investigators who were looking into the murder of Charles Smothers.

28-year-old Jesse Boyd is accused of fatally shooting Smothers.

His body was found on Shady Grove Road in January.
