BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — It was 48 hours of pure hell for Latonya Kelley and her family.
On Tuesday, Kelley’s 10-month-old son, De’Anthony Kelley, was kidnapped in the middle of the night from a family friend’s home.
After a search that ventured all the way to Dallas, Texas, the child was found – safe and sound.
Kelley and her family were all smiles on Wednesday afternoon.
She’s relieved and happy to know that her baby boy will soon be in her arms again.
“I don’t know why my baby was chosen. I know there was a motive behind it, but what the motive is I don’t know,” Kelley commented.
A juvenile suspect has been charged with the kidnapping.
De’Anthony Kelley is currently in the care of the Texas Department of Human Resources.
For Latonya, the last two and a half days seem like a bad dream.
“I’m still waiting for somebody to just shake me and say it’s time for you to get up,” Kelley said. “[De’Anthony] was just, you know, how do you go from [Birmingham] to Dallas, Texas? I’ve never been out of Jefferson County.”
Thankfully for Kelley, the nightmare is over, and a good reality, not a dream, is on the horizon.
She is in the process of making the long trek to Dallas to be reunited with her son.
And although she knows she’s in for a rather long process when she makes it to Dallas, she’s just hoping to be home as soon as she can.
“I feel so much better. I’m happy. I’m getting money, I’m going to Texas,” exclaimed Kelley. “I’m not waiting on Texas. I’m going.”
