Jasper man’s body recovered in Smith Lake

JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) – Update: According to Alabama marine police, the victim’s body has been recovered.

Alabama marine police John Williams has reported a 37 year old has drowned at Duncan Bridge on Smith Lake Saturday.

The victim was in a boat with two other men when he jumped off the back of the boat and went under. One friend found him but could not hold on, causing the victim to sink.

According to Williams, it happened right underneath the bridge where the boat was idle.

The Smith Lake task force made up of divers from Walker, Cullman and Winston county are trying to recover his body. He is believed to be in 80 feet deep water.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time.
