(WIAT) — Birmingham has seen its fair share of violent crimes in recent months.

On Monday, Sgt. Johnny Williams with the Birmingham Police Department said there have been 34 homicides in Birmingham in 2013.

As a result of the recent string of homicides, mothers who want the violence in Birmingham to stop will hold a mass vigil on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

The event is set to be held at the Jesus Is Real Ministry located on 2008 Snavely Avenue.
