BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — An overturned 18-wheeler caused traffic to be shut down on I-20/59 North at Messer Airport for a large length of time. Eventually the lanes were reopened to the normal flow of traffic.
The accident happened around noon on Friday.
The Birmingham Police Department dispatch says they do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Officials are trying to determine if the brief rain that fell in the area of the accident played a role in the wreck.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not seriously injured during the accident but was taken to a nearby hospital to be examined.
CBS42 has a crew on the scene and will update as more information becomes available.
