(WIAT) — Next week, more than 40 million Americans will hit the road for the 4th of July holiday.

The Alabama Department of Transportation hopes to make traveling within the state as smooth of a ride as possible.

ALDOT is cutting back on construction during the holiday travel period.

It runs from 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd, through midnight on Sunday, July 7th.

During that time, fewer crews will be working on roads.

There will also be no temporary road closures.

Meanwhile, more Alabama State Troopers will be out on the roads.

The troopers will be working overtime to make sure the holiday is a safe one.
