BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham native and former Indiana Hoosier Christian Watford went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Although Watford was not selected, he will still have the opportunity to play for in the NBA Summer League. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Watford was recruited to Indiana by current Samford head coach Bennie Seltzer when Seltzer was an assistant at Indiana.

Watford was one of the top players in the state and the country when he graduated from Shades Valley High School.

He continued his success at Indiana, averaging 12-16 points throughout his career.

Watford led Indiana to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament during his final two seasons, including a No. 1 seed as a senior.

He scored 12.4 points per game with 6.4 rebounds per game and shot 50 percent from the three-point line.

Christian was given the go-ahead by the Dallas Mavericks and the Indiana Pacers organizations.

The Pacers’ summer league schedule begins July 7-12 in Orlando and then Watford will travel to Las Vegas from July 12-22 to play for the Mavericks’ summer team.

If Watford has a productive summer with either team he has the chance to sign as a free agent.
