(WIAT) — Birmingham police are investigating a double homicide that happened in the Wylam community Friday night at 11:30pm.

Police responded to a call of gunshots and a wrecked vehicle at 736 Attalla Street.

Once officers arrived, they found two deceased male victims inside the house and a female inside the wrecked vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

The deceased victims have been identified as 17-year-old twins, Jonathan and Jerry Berry of Birmingham.  The female, who has been identified as the mother of the twins, was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment; she is expected to recover from her injuries.

Police have received information that there were three male suspects who broke into the house before the mother got home. She saw the suspects and attempted to drive away when they began shooting towards the victim’s vehicle. She was shot while fleeing away, causing the vehicle to wreck into a neighboring yard. The suspects shot the twins before leaving the house.

Police are still looking for suspects in connection with these homicides that they say does not appear to be random.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers 205-254-7777.
