Federal judge blocks part of Alabama abortion law

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A federal judge has blocked a crucial element in Alabama’s new abortion clinic law.

The portion of the law that requires abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals was blocked.

The ruling was in response to a motion filed by Planned Parenthood.

That response maintains the requirement is unnecessary and will force three of Alabama’s five clinics to close.

Attorney General Luther Strange says he’s disappointed in the decision.

The restraining order lasts through July 12th.
