BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – In 2009, Alabama Governor Bob Riley signed the Entertainment Industry Incentive Act for the state.
It gives film companies significant savings to me their movies.
And it’s working. We’ve seen lots of action in the last year. And depending on where you were in the last two weeks around town you might have seen some movie action yourself.
The Magic City is looking more and more like movie city these days.
Brothers Jon and Andy Erwin are working on their next film: “Mom’s Night Out.” The shoot means big business for places like Work Play Theatre. Just ask owner Tommy Williams who we caught up with on the set. He says “With all the tax incentives we’ve had two or three movies, commercials, and videos shot here.”
The movie action didn’t happen in downtown Birmingham alone.
We followed the “Mom’s Night Out” cast and crew from Birmingham to Pelham. We got a glimpse of some of the scenes and actors.
Sarah Drew from Grey’s Anatomy plays a starring role. I talked with “Mom’s Night Out” Producer Kevin Downes who you’ll also see in the film about why they chose Birmingham.
“Primarily we came to Birmingham because Jon and Andy Erwin are from Birmingham and their first film “October Baby” was shot here they have a lot of roots here and it was really important for them to continue to support their local community for the work they do.”
Join us Monday night on CBS42 News at ten to hear from Director Jon Erwin about how “Mom’s Night Out” hits close to home and why they say it’s a family comedy that will leave you laughing out loud.
