(WIAT) — Since 2011, Mac McQuown has been making his way across the nation with the intention of visiting the capitol steps of all 50 states.

So far, McQuown has walked to seven capitals, through 10 states and a total of 2,174 miles.

On Monday, he made a stop in Birmingham.

The Marine says his goal is to bring attention to anyone who has served in combat and raise funds for homeless veterans.

McQuown expects to finish his walk at Arlington National Cemetery in about six years.
