BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The student loan interest rate hike comes at a bad time for students in the University of Alabama system.

Just two weeks ago, they learned their tuition is going up in the fall.

This is the sixth year in a row that the board of trustees has approved a tuition hike.

However, at just three percent, this increase is the lowest.

The increase means in-state students will pay $125 more per semester at the University of Alabama, $252 more at UAB and $199 more at UAH.

Out-of-state students will pay $500 more at Alabama, $582 at UAB and $199 at UAH.
