Alabaster City School System finally independent from Shelby County

(WIAT) — Alabaster is celebrating its freedom from Shelby County schools.

After a nearly eight year process, the Alabaster City School System became official on Monday.

Schools leaders are not wasting any time tackling assignments.

Several renovation and landscaping projects at the city’s six schools are already in the works.

Crews are doing everything from replacing floor tiles to repairing bathroom sinks and stalls.

All projects will be completed by the first day of classes on August 19th.
