GADSDEN, Ala (WIAT) – It’s only been about four days since Etowah Co. Sheriff’s deputies raided the Center Stage event center and seized two electronic bingo machines.

On Tuesday the charges against the facility’s manager, Michelle Garbe, have been dropped.  Etowah Co. District Attorney Jimmie Harp believes gambling proponents basically staged the raid last Friday to get someone arrested.  “You’ve got a lady that was charged with a crime that was manufactured for the sole purpose of getting an advisory opinion from the court,” he says.

This is game, Harp says, his office will not play along with.  With a number of capitol murder cases, rape cases and other violent crimes already in the system, he says they’re not going to devote that kind of time and energy to provide gambling supporters an opportunity to get an opinion from a criminal court.
