JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (x2): Hospital is all clear workers have returned inside
UPDATE: Seventy-six patients were evacuated after a bomb threat which came in at 8:30 this morning .
The evacuation took 15 minutes. A patient went into labor during the evacuation. She gave birth in the parking lot of the medical center.
According to Renae McKinney with Walker Baptist Medical Center, the mother and new born baby are said to doing fine.
ORIGINAL: Walker Baptist Medical Center is being evacuated due to a reported bomb threat.
In addition to the medical center, eight bridges on Highway 69 are being blocked off.
One of the bridges along Highway 69 is also suspected of having a bomb.
Officials have blocked all 8 of them to investigate further.
Fire Chief Greg Chamness says someone claims to have placed a bomb in the hospital and on one of the bridges.
Drivers in the area need to take detours.
