BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A Birmingham soldier is the latest to fall in the war in Afghanistan.

18 year old Errol D. A. Milliard, known as Elijah, was killed in action July 4th.  According to the Department of Defense, his unit came under fire from rocket propelled grenades.

A 2012 graduate of Carver High School, Milliard is remembered by former classmate Nse Meredith as a funny young man who always knew he would join the military.

Family members and his fiancee we have made contact with have declined interviews at this time.  But on Facebook, Aisha Young, posted a remembrence of him.  It reads:

To all who fret, may this be a light…from the day Elijah was born…his future has been spoken…

Errol: Army man; a noble man whom welds power

Duran: firm; enduring

Aster: (greek) star; (english) flower

Milliard: guardian; ‘guardian of the mill’

Elijah: (hebrew) ‘my god is lord’

So let this be a time where we detour from the pain of his absence and rejoice in the accomplishment of his home-going… -Love is never lost

Milliar is survived by his parents, his grandmother and his fiance.
