BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)– There was good news for travelers 4th of July weekend. Gas prices are going down! In Birmingham, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.23. That’s 27 cents lower than the national average. AAA says this year’s prices are the third highest on record, but they are continuing to drop for the 20th day in a row. The reason? Gas supply is up while consumer demand is down. AAA says a weak economy, more efficient cars, and fewer people driving are contributors. And there’s more good news for southern drivers! States like Alabama, Georgia and Florida have the lowest prices in the country.
