WASHINGTON, D. C.– Federal spending cuts will mean major furloughs at the Pentagon. Starting Monday, July 8th, 650,000 defense department employees will be on furlough. Civilian Pentagon workers will be forced to take one unpaid day off each week through September 21st, resulting in a 20% reduction of their income. Observers warn the furlough could slow the delivery of supplies to troops. The cuts are expected to save $1.8 billion; however that’s only a fraction of the $40 billion that defense has to cut.
