(WIAT) – A bomb threat led to an evacuation of Walker Baptist Medical Center on July 5th.
21-year-old Tessa Kilgore was in active labor with her first child when officials told her she would have to be relocated to the outside of the hospital.
“I was like, oh my gosh I’ve gotta go outside? I said, are you serious? This is really happening today? Out of all the days,” said Kilgore.
The soon to be mom was evacuated at 8:50 a.m. and by 9:23 a.m. Tessa Kilgore and La’Darrick Babbs welcomed Kylie Jordan Babbs.
Kilgore says she was surprised by how calm the hospital staff was during her delivery. She gave birth underneath an oak tree in the parking lot.
A pink ribbon now decorates the tree with a tag attached that reads “Tree of Life.” It also has the baby’s name and the day she was born written on it.
The family hopes to have Kylie’s first birthday party at the tree.
