Auburn University

AUBURN, Ala (WIAT) – Auburn kicker Cody Parkey and punter Steven Clark were both named to pre-season award watch lists Wednesday.

Parkey is up for the Lou Groza College Place Kicker Award. Parkey led the Tigers in scoring last year, hitting 11 field goals out of 14 attempts in 2012. He was also a perfect 27-27 on PATs. The senior ranks fourth all time in school history for field goal percentage at (.750) and has scored a total of 142 in his college career.

Clark is on the watch list for Ray Guy Award.  Clark averaged 39.8 yards per punt in his 70 attempts in 2012, including six punts that were over 50 yards. He also downed 15 punts inside the 20 yard line. His longest punt last year was a 54 yarder against LSU.

The Lou Groza College Place Kicker Award is presented by the Orange Bowl Committee and recognizes the nation’s premier college kicker. It is named for former NFL Player of the Year and Cleveland Browns lineman and kicker Lou Groza. The 22nd Lou Groza Award will be given out on December 10.

The Ray Guy Award is given to the nation’s best punter. The winner is determined by a panel of sports writers, coaches, sports information directors, and past winners. The Augusta Sports Council created the award in 2000 in honor of Georgia native and College Football Hall of Famer Ray Guy.
