JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that three people were injured in a head-on collision on Highway 79 near the Blount and Jefferson County line.
According to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian, a vehicle was traveling northbound when it struck another vehicle in the rear.
The first vehicle then lost control, causing the vehicle to cross the center line and strike a southbound pickup truck head on.
Christian says the driver of the first vehicle had to be extracted and then was transported to the hospital by Lifesaver.
His injuries are serious, but he is expected to survive. A passenger was in the same vehicle and was transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the rear-ended vehicle wasn’t injured and refused treatment on the scene.
Christian says speed is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
