BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The sky was the limit for a group of campers at UAB this week.

A group of high schools had a chance to explore what it takes to build a rocket.

UAB’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering hosted a workshop to teach the students about the field of materials engineering

During the week, campers had the chance to design and build their own model rockets, and they put them to the test on Friday morning.

Educators say the camp is a great opportunity for young adults to learn about different careers.

Campers also got a lesson in finances.

The department says students found that the more expensive materials have a greater performance quality.
