BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)– Mayor William Bell is making cleaning up overgrown lots in Birmingham a campaign issue. The city council is flooded with hundreds of weed ordinance violations every week, and council members often ask the mayor to send crews to clear some of the bigger problems. Mayor Bell is now turning the issue back on the council, saying they will not release the extra money needed to address the problem. Meanwhile, some neighbors are skeptical the mayor will deliver on this campaign promise. Stick with CBS42. We plan to  check- in on the progress over the next few weeks to see if these lots are taken care of and how the work is paid for.
