Princeton Baptist Medical Center releases statement on nurse parking lot abduction

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)-  Jennifer Dodd, the media relations representative for Princeton Baptist Medical Center, released this statement concerning the investigation of a nurse who was taken from the parking lot:

Baptist Health System and the staff at Princeton Baptist Medical Center are grateful for the safe resolution of the parking lot abduction on Saturday evening, July 13. While these types of incidents are prevalent in our society, we are fortunate that it is a rare occurrence at Princeton. Our employee is resting comfortably at home and in conversations with Baptist leadership earlier today, she has expressed support for the current security protocols that are in place at Princeton. She will avoid walking alone in the future, which is a  good practice no matter where you work.

Safety for patients, families, visitors, volunteers and employees always has and always will be a top priority for Baptist Health System. Even with the presence of highly trained security officers, the 24/7 availability of security escorts, a wide network of video surveillance, and other measures in place, this incident occurred and is a strong reminder to all of us. No matter where we are, we must be aware of our surroundings, travel in groups when possible, use security escorts, report suspicious behavior and remain alert at all times.

We continually assess our security needs, and implement enhancements that become available through emerging technologies, and that won’t change. We do anticipate an increase in the use of security escorts and will staff appropriately. Our thanks to the Birmingham Police Department who responded in force, and has already made an arrest in the case.

Dodd also expressed that she was extremely grateful that the nurse was found safe. Watch us tonight at 5:30pm and 10pm for the latest details and community reaction on this story.
