HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Hoover City Schools announced changes to the system’s transportation services on Monday.
The changes are not set to go into effect until the 2014-2015 school year.
The school system announced plans to discontinue transportation service for regular education students beginning in August of 2014.
According to a release from Hoover City Schools, the change comes as part of a plan the school system has to move “aggressively toward protecting a long term, sustainable, high level of quality of educational the citizens of Hoover expect for their children despite a climate of dwindling resources.”
The Hoover City Schools’ Board of Education cited considerable negative pressure on many parts of the system’s current financial operating model as a reason for the decision.
Additionally, the school system plans to continue analyzing and implementing ideas and strategies designed to change the system’s “deteriorating financial operation trends, recoup lost capacity, and position the school system for sustainable success.”
