Shooting in Bessemer leaves one dead; homicide investigation launched

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — A shooting in Bessemer on Monday has left one person dead.

At around 11:14 a.m., officers with the Bessemer Police Department responded to reports of a person shot on 16th Street North.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the person who had been shot entered a truck driven by another person and left the scene.

Authorities were able to locate the truck a short while later. The driver of the truck pulled over and paramedics provided treatment to the victim’s injuries.

He was transported to UAB Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The Bessemer Police Department says detectives with the department are in the process of questioning several witnesses and suspects.
