BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) in May, the Southwest Athletic Conference announced that it’s championship games in Basketball and Football would be relocated to Houston, Texas. The football game was in Birmingham every year since the inaugural game in 1999.
SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp didn’t make an impassioned plea for understanding Monday at SWAC Media days here in Birmingham where the league headquarters remains.
He feels he didn’t have to.
The commissioner explained the leagues championship departure from Birmingham as a simple bid process and that Houston made a better offer in terms of facilities and exposure.
