GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — A tragic accident in North Alabama claims two more lives. Four people have died as a result of a rollover crash in Marshall County. Driver John Lawson, 19, and passengers Blake Keener, 21, Ruben Pacheco, 18, and a 13-year-old girl have all died. They were in a pickup truck when it flipped while traveling on highway 431 near Guntersville. Witnesses say several children were thrown from the cab of the truck when it crashed. The truck then burst into flames. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
A state law was passed in 2006 requiring children under 15 to be restrained while riding in a vehicle. However, Lawson, Keener, and Pacheco were all 18 and older.
Alabama is one of 20 states without a law restricting people from riding in the back of a pickup.
