Unresponsive child locked in car in Homewood has died

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE (4x): According to to Bill Yates with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the 11-month-old girl who died at Children’s Hospital on Wednesday was named Gabriella Gi-Ny Luong.

UPDATE (x3): A co-owner of Omega fitness heard his neighbors at Genesis Nail Spa screaming and crying.

“I ran next door, found their daughter lying on the floor unresponsive,” Conn said. “When I asked them what happened they said their daughter had been left in the car since 10 am.”

Conn performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived.

“Her body was radiating heat. Much hotter than we would be,” Conn said. ” I would say about 105, 110 degrees. Not in a good state.”

Conn says the child’s mother arrived at work and forgot to take the child to daycare.

Homewood police are questioning the child’s parents although no charges have been filed at this time.

UPDATE (x2): Sgt. Andrew Didcot with the Homewood Police Department has confirmed that the girl has died.

UPDATE: According to the Homewood Police Department, they got the call around 1:20 p.m. The call came from a citizen who saw the girl in a white SUV and dialed 911.

Neighbors said the citizen performed CPR on the girl until paramedics arrived. The child was taken to Children’s Hospital while paramedics were still performing CP.

The child’s exact condition is unknown at this time.

Homewood Police are currently questioning the mother.

ORIGINAL: Reports of an unresponsive child locked inside of a car has led to a police response in Homewood on Wednesday afternoon.

Homewood Police are on the scene and have the area taped off while paramedics and other emergency personnel respond.

Paramedics arrived on the scene around 1:40 p.m.

Full details were not immediately available, but CBS42 has a crew on the scene and will provide more information as it becomes available.
